ABOUT

Hi there, I'm Lauren.

I spend all of my time with my family; my husband, our two sons, our cats, our fish. I love creating and being in nature.

FAQ

Do you and your family eat meat?
No. I haven't eaten meat since mid-Autumn 2006; My husband hasn't eaten meat since mid-Spring 2008; Our eldest son has never eaten meat and our youngest is currently exclusively breastfeeding; and will not be eating meat after that.

Do you and your family eat animal products? What about honey?
No, we don't eat any animal products except for honey. We used to eat honey, then stopped eating it and now we eat it again. If you'd like to know more about our "Vegan" lives, check out these posts.

Are you just "food Vegans" or do you live a Vegan lifestyle?
We are lifestyle Vegans. We try to, at all reasonable costs, avoid most animal products. If possible, we prefer to not sit under the severed, taxidermy animal head at restaurants, for example. But we are realistic - there are some things you cannot avoid. There are animal products in most things people use, even daily. And while living a still relatively "normal" lifestyle, these things aren't easy to avoid. We do use wool now, though. If you'd like to know more about our "Vegan" lives, check out these posts.

Why are you Vegan?
To me, being Vegan isn't about being perfect. It's about doing the best we can within reasonable means. We avoid all animal products that we know of for the most part, research more and then just make the best decisions we can and change and adapt once we gain more knowledge. That doesn't apply to just Veganism; it applies to our entire lives. Transforming. Changing. Adapting. Modifying. It's beautiful. It doesn't mean, though, that we regret having once lived a certain way; you will never learn and grow if you don't make mistakes. Do I regret having once been a meat eater? No, that's ridiculous. Am I glad, though, that I was able to learn and change? Yeah, totally! If you'd like to know more about our "Vegan" lives, check out these posts.

What program do you use to edit your photos?
Pixlr.com is all I use. I use my tablet with the programs that came with it (my favourite is ArtRage,) but I haven't dabbled in photo editing in those programs yet. I can't afford "big box" programs like Photoshop. And I can't really justify it either since Pixlr is basically a free, mini version of Photoshop. (Layers and all!)

What art tools do you use?
... I'll make a post on the traditional tools I use soon.
As far as digital art is concerned, I use a Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch Small Tablet. The program I prefer to draw in is ArtRage. (It, along with three other programs, came free with my tablet.) I crop and edit in Pixlr, though.

What is your real job?
I currently don't have a "real" job. I stay home with our eldest son and will stay home with Rowan as well. I'd like to maybe work on digital and traditional art more and build my Etsy store; possibly do something with crystals, jewelry and metaphysical goodness.

Do you make money from your blog?
No, I currently do not. (And never have so far.)
I am not opposed to it, but I wouldn't do it daily, nor would I post reviews or posts on items I didn't feel jived with our lives completely.

Who designed the look of your blog?
Me! I love playing around with html and graphic design. I currently prefer a simple design because it helps me (and the readers) focus on the content instead of the design of the blog. Well, that, and my tastes change often. Mostly the latter. Haha!

The graphic decorations in the sidebar and various posts are provided by We Lived Happily Ever After.
The textures in the sidebar, header, footer, favicon and various posts are provided by Mercury Code.
The watercolour textures I've used are provided by AramisDream.
The fonts used in graphics are Josefin Sans and Garogier.
